Month of Love: Loving Yourself Body, Mind and Soul

January 23, 2012

February is just around the corner – the month of love!  To celebrate, I decided to start a challenge of sorts, a celebration of love if you will.  The challenge is all about dedicating yourself, for the next 29 days, to focus on loving yourself – body, mind, and soul.  This means a focus on physical health and well-being, challenging your mind and intellect, and growing in your relationship with God.  All of these things relate back to the main focus of this blog, [w]holy living – living a whole and holy life.  For the month of February, I want to create an accountability group that is all on this journey towards [w]holy living.  I hope you will join with me!

So, what does this challenge entail?  It’s pretty straight-forward – you will create three goals, one goal for each category of body, mind, and soul.  These need to be SMART goals, meaning they must be specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and time-sensitive.  Setting SMART goals is crucial if you really want to achieve and even surpass the goals you set.  What does a SMART goal look like, you ask.  For example, one of my SMART goals for the challenge is to read two books in the month of February.  I have attached a specific number to this goal, an end date for the goal, and it is definitely something I know I can do; it’s not out of reach.

You will submit these goals using the form located on this blog by February 1st.  Then, you will email updates on your goals every Wednesday during the month of February.

If you want some guidance during this challenge, I am happy to help!  I will offer the following opportunities for you to take advantage of if you wish.  Feel free to use any, all, or none of these options – it’s all up to you!

Body

  • You can keep track of workouts using the free WOWY supergym.  Sign up for your free account here.
  • If you live in the Fayetteville area, I will be giving away prizes during the month to challengers who attend our classes at church.  (PiYo, Mondays 7 p.m.; Zumba, Tuesdays 6 p.m.; Hip Hop Hustle, Thursdays 7 p.m.)
  • If you are looking for a new workout program, let me know what kind of thing you are looking for.  I will gladly point you in the right direction or let you borrow from my own at-home workout collection.

Mind

  • These are the books that I am currently reading and/or plan on reading during the challenge.  If you’re looking for accountability with reading, join me and we’ll discuss these books during the challenge.
    • PUSH by Chalene Johnson
    • Epiphany by Ferrol Sams
    • Eat that Frog by Brian Tracy

Soul

  • I plan on reading through the Psalms during the month of February.  I will post a reading plan on this blog if you would like to follow along with me.
  • I will compose a weekly prayer email and send it to anyone who is interested.  This email will include a prayer for the week, prayer concerns that people would like to share, and inspirational quotes and scripture verses.  You can choose to receive these emails or not when you sign up for the challenge.

So, why should you be a part of the challenge?  Here are just a few reasons:

  • A definite beginning point to focus on specific areas of your life
  • Have accountability as you set out to achieve your goals
  • Opportunities to help keep you on track
  • New relationships formed within the group as well as within yourself – become better in tune with your body and grow in your relationship with God

If you are ready to join me for the Month of Love Challenge, fill out the form on this website, located here.  That’s it!  You will get your first challenge email on February 1st and then we will celebrate the Month of Love on February 29 with a virtual challenge party and goal recognition.

This challenge is what you make it – you will only get out of it what you put in. Have fun but challenge yourself, push yourself out of your comfort zone and see what will happen!
